We are long time fans of the Lake Effect Diner (across the parking lot, same owner/chef) but, having a vegetarian teenager, never tried the Steer. Last night my wife and I were looking for a restaurant for two open on a Sunday and gave it a whirl— and were very glad we did. You might not expect a place called The Steer to have vegetarian, much less vegan, options, but they do. The bar is warm and friendly, but we ate in the dining room which was quiet and classy. The music from the bar was classic rock at a pleasant background music level. The service was exceptional. I started with the French Onion soup—good with a creative presentation (lots of bread, sliced scallion garnish) and had the farm to table special (a vegan Fettuccine Alfredo), my wife had the salmon and we split a creme brûlée. Everything was delicious. We absolutely will be back— probably with our picky eater in tow.

I was in town for a concert, after the concert we stopped by here. It was a nice atmosphere the service was good and I loved the mixture of music. 9 wanted chicken wings but the kitchen was already closed

Food was great, service was not. My friend and I got ignored, waitress did the bare minimum. I said side of gravy fries, she brought a full appetizer of poutine, then said gravy and fries are 2 separate items, even though the menu said gravy fries $5.95, after arguing she fixed it. We wanted separate checks and had to ask multiple times for the separate checks. Bartender gave us attitude when we tried to get help from her. Only nice person was the cook. Won't be back!

Shared an evening meal with some friends and was overall very impressed by the experience. The seating area was very class with a gastro-pub feel. The vegan Alfredo I ordered one serving of to split with my partner and they separated it into 2 dishes under one charge for us. It was the perfect portion size this way. I’m not vegan but that dish is delicious. Also enjoyed the crème brûlée pictures below. I will happily return in the future!

Parking was plentiful and easily accessible. The restaurant had just opened for the day, so I was the only customer at the time. My server Olivia was very pleasant and patient with us. She showed herself friendly available. The food was delicious. Stuffed Banana Peppers and poutine fries for the win.
